Martin Familia

Martin Familia joins the College for Social Innovation after six years of experience in banking. Martin attended the University of Massachusetts where he become the first member of his family to not only attend college but graduate with a bachelors degree in Economics. From then, he started working at Bank of America and eventually with Blue Hills Bank mostly as an operations manager. During his time there, he found that his passion was not just working with finances but mostly with the undeserved communities where those institutions were located.

In addition to my professional experience, I have strong interest in public service and community development. In October of 2014, I joined the Board of Directors for Codman Academy Charter Public School. To date, I am third Codman alum to serve in this capacity. Codman's mission is "to learn, to lead, and to serve." Coming out of this type of tradition has a large impact on why I am excited for CfSI and its focus on creating a new generation of social leaders. I have been using the skills I've acquired professionally to provide financial literacy training to high school students in the Boston area as well to senior citizens in the greater Boston area as they try to maintain their own independence from assisted living.

This role with CfSI presents an opportunity to align his professional work with his personal convictions regarding social justice.
