Jordan Moyer: SITC Life Hacks

Adapting to living in the city can be a huge adjustment, especially while starting a new position. If you’re planning on doing Semester in the City, here are some of the tips and tricks I found most helpful during my time in the program! One of the scariest parts for me was moving into the apartments and having to learn the public transportation. One super easy way to get used to it was by going out with the cohort and allowing them to show you how to use it. It also helps to get out with your roommates and learn how to navigate together. If you aren’t familiar, public transportation can be daunting, but once you get the hang of it it’s a breeze!

The adjustment into a 9-5 workflow is also something to consider if you’ve never experienced it before. I think that one of the most valuable tips I learned in order to not get burnt out, was making sure to clearly split my work and free time. One way I was able to do this was by going on a walk every day after I was finished with my work. This is just an example, but really any activity to get you away from your computer and unwind for the evening!
