Application Deadlines
Centre students must apply via Centre’s internal application by February 9, 2025 if they wish to study abroad in the fall or spring semester of the next academic year.
Once students have been approved by Centre, they may apply directly to Semester in the City in accordance with SITC’s general fall/spring application deadlines.
Application Process
Complete Centre’s internal application by February 2nd and choose SITC as a preferred program. Applications are due for both the upcoming Fall and Spring semesters of the subsequent academic year. Please note that listing Semester in the City as a preferred program does not guarantee that you will be approved to apply directly to and attend SITC.
Receive notice from Centre by late February regarding your approval to apply to Semester in the City directly.
Apply to Semester in the City by April 15 for Fall admission and November 15 for Spring admission. Once you apply directly to SITC, you’ll interview with a member of our staff and receive your acceptance letter within two weeks of interviewing.
Requirements
Centre students may study away during their sophomore, junior, or senior year. This means that current first-year students who wish to study away during their sophomore year must apply internally to study away by February 2nd of their first year.
Credit
Semester in the City courses will transfer to Centre College as follows:
INT 400 Internship (6 credits)
Note: students must complete an Internship Learning Agreement (ILA) with the Center for Career and Professional Development (CCPD) at Centre College in order to receive credit for their internship.
SLJ 300: Social Innovator's Toolbox (3 credits)
SSC100: Becoming a Problem Solver (3 credits)
To receive major/minor credit or fulfill specific course requirements, students must submit a substitution form with the relevant program chair to the Registrar's office (this form can be accessed by signing into CentreNet via this link). For General Education curriculum requirements, students should contact the Assistant Dean of General Education.
Costs
Students can apply their Centre College institutional aid (scholarships, grants, loans) to SITC; as a result, students will pay the same charges (tuition, room, board, and fees) that they would typically pay to study at Centre.
Since CFSI does not offer a full meal plan (though all students receive ~$1200 in stipend and food reimbursements), Centre’s finance office may credit the student’s account for the uncovered portion of board on a pro-rated basis.
The same as on-campus, students are responsible for their own personal expenses which are not limited to clothing, personal care products, prescriptions, leisure, entertainment, and recreational activities.
Airfare and other travel costs to and from Boston are covered by the student.
Centre College students accepted to study away at CFSI pay a $400 non-refundable/non-transferable administrative study abroad/away fee to the finance office at Centre (see here for more details).
