College Partners

CFSI partners with colleges that share the belief that combining well-supported experiential learning opportunities with traditional classroom learning enhances student learning overall and better prepares students for work and life beyond college.

As such, we work with college partners to develop an integrated partnership – one where the goals of the college and the goals of CFSI are aligned and supported for success.

CFSI works closely with college partners to minimize barriers and maximize access for all students to participate in the program. While participating in the program, students remain enrolled as full-time students at their home institutions and will receive a full semester of credit upon successful completion of the program.

"We are in the business of providing life-changing experiences to our students, and our partnership with College for Social Innovation is an important part of that mission. If talking about CFSI with prospective students causes even 10 more students to enroll, that alone more than pays for the program."

William Falls | Dean of UVM’s College of Arts and Sciences

As the cost of college continues to climb, students and families are challenging higher education to demonstrate how it prepares the students of today to become the professional and civic leaders of tomorrow. College for Social Innovation helps colleges complement their curricula, strengthen student outcomes, and build pipelines to careers of impact.

Semester Programs for Emerging Civic Leaders

Semester in the City (SITC) brings students to the vibrant city of Boston for an immersive experience lasting 15 weeks, focused on social innovation and personal growth. With its rich history, vibrant culture, and thriving social sector, Boston is an ideal location for impact-minded students to spend an immersive semester. All Fellows complete a 400-hour mentored internship at a nonprofit, government agency, or social mission business as well as supplemental courses on social change and
human-centered design.

Semester for Impact (SFI) is an innovative new program that aims to bring engaging social impact semesters to local college communities across the nation. Like SITC, the core of SFI is a well-supported 400-hour internship in the social sector. Students maintain their ties to campus, including housing, clubs, and extracurriculars, and colleges gain a proven partner to support their students through intensive internships while providing critical support to local nonprofits.
