Requirements:

Students must maintain a 2.75 GPA and be in good academic and social standing to be eligible for participation

  • Sophomores through seniors may study away

  • Students must declare a major before applying to study away through OCSE

  • If a student has a GPA below 2.75 or is applying to study away outside of junior year, they must follow Skidmore’s petition policies and procedures to be considered for approval.NOTY

Internal Application:

Students must complete Skidmore’s internal application to study away with Semester in the City.

Credit:

Skidmore students will receive a full semester’s worth of elective credit (15 credits) towards graduation, and/or minor credit towards Black Studies and Arts Administration minor degrees. However, we encourage students to reach out to their faculty advisor and OCSE to advocate for consideration of additional major/minor credit approval.

Students are required to take a minimum of 15 credits and maximum of 18 credits.  If a student requests to take less than 15 credits or more than 18 credits, they must obtain written authorization from the Office of Off-Campus Study & Exchanges at Skidmore College prior to making the course registration change.

Billing:

Students participating on Skidmore Programs and International or Domestic Approved Programs will be billed by Skidmore for the Skidmore comprehensive fee. The comprehensive fee includes the current rates for Skidmore tuition and a room at the on campus apartment rate. In return, Skidmore will manage payment to the program provider, as the program provider will bill Skidmore/OCSE directly. Skidmore will pay the provider for tuition and mandatory academic fees, room, board (if applicable), and mandatory medical insurance. Since CFSI does not include regular meals, Skidmore will not bill you for board.

Financial Aid:

You can use most financial aid for off-campus study for up to two semesters, and your financial aid package is approved to apply towards Semester in the City. If you receive aid, you should speak with a Financial Aid representative to review possible aid changes based on increased expenses.
