Lam Ngo
Student Ambassador at Centre College
Lam is a junior Economics & Finance major & Data Science minor. He grew up in Lang Son, Vietnam and moved to Centre College in Kentucky at age 18. He was a Semester in the City Fellow in Spring 2026 as Civic Content Development and Analytics Fellow at Brookline Interactive Group.
On campus, Lam is a club member of International Student Association (ISA) and Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPIC). He loves Einstein Bros. Bagels’ spicy chicken bagel: “it is soooo tender and I especially love the hot sauce that comes with it.” This year, Lam hopes to find another internship in Boston.
Q: How did you find out about SITC & why did you decide to participate in it?
A: “It was through an Open House day for the Study Away & Abroad program for Centre and this program immediately captures my attention. Boston always seems to me like a really great city to explore and to gain more experience in non-profit work.”
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: “I have always wanted to help others succeed. Whether it be academic, personal, or navigating life challenges, there's something I genuinely enjoy about finding the right solution to someone's problem and watching them work through it.”
Q: What are some of your interests?
A: “I like playing sports, I play volleyball and badminton every week at Centre, and recently, I just picked up pickleball in my city (Lang Son) since I am here over the summer. I have to say, it really amazes me how people can come up with new sports every day. Pickleball is like a mix of tenis, badminton, and ping pong.”
Q: Can you tell us about a memorable moment from your internship?
A: For context, at BIG, we work at a ballpoint area and everyone sits close to one another, this is just so when we have something we need help with, we can call out the person who specializes in these work. At the end of the day, everyone would halt their work for 10-15 minutes and chit chat with one another; and through that, we were able to connect with our colleagues, to share the joys but also laugh about the struggles we go through.
Q: What do you wish you knew before participating in Semester in the City?
A: “Learn how to cook easy meal. I used to make lots of food that takes 1-2 hours when I first came to Boston, and at the end of the semester, I ended up making dishes that takes 10 minutes everyday but still delicious and full of nutrition. I wished I knew how little time I would have to cook my meal since the internship takes up a portion of my time and the weekend would be spent exploring the city and resting, hence not having the appropriate time to cook. Making those easy meals have helped me saved time and quite some money!”
