Nayr Garcia
Student Ambassador at University of Vermont
Nayr is a junior Political Science and Sociology major. Home for Nayr is the Dominican Republic and New York City. She was a Semester for Impact Fellow in Spring 2025 as a fellow at the UVM Extension Agricultural Business.
On campus, she works at the Halal Shack & is a regular in Barre class. Her favorite spot to grab a comfort meal on campus is Jamal’s - either the grilled cheese or Mac and cheese. This year, she hopes to get her license!
Q: How did you find SFI & why did you decide to do it?
A: “My advisor informed me after I said I wanted an internship. I decided to participate because I really wanted to do something in my community and it seemed so manageable.”
Q: What are you passionate about?
A: “I’m passionate about politics, but more specifically change. As an immigrant I would say immigration is what I care about the most. I am also passionate about spirituality.”
Q: What are some of your interests?
A: “Pilates, Harry Styles, house music, collecting Smiskis, walking around New York.”
Q: If you could visit a fictional world for a day & be immersed in it, where would you go?
A: “Harry Potter for the vibes and the magic.”
Q: What motivates you?
A: “God, my family, and the prospect of a happy and fulfilling life where I can help people.”
Q: What advice do you have for incoming fellows?
A: “My advice is that the experience is what you make of it, ask yourself what you really want out of this and how to get there. Don’t let it pass you by!”
