Requirements:

  • Students from any major who are in good academic (2.5 GPA) and social standing may apply

  • By default, students are credited through the College of Education per the credit guidelines below.

  • If a student is a Community Education & Social Change major or minor, all credits will count directly towards those degree requirements. BDIC and other students are typically successful in petitioning for the 9-credit internship to count towards their major’s internship requirement, but this and any other major/minor credit approvals are at the discretion of the student’s faculty advisor and department. Please consult the SITC Student worksheet linked below for more information.

Internal Application: NONE

Students must review and complete the steps outlined on the SITC Student Worksheet to ensure successful course registration and transfer of their credit and financial aid.

Credit:

16 total

  • 1. A UMass Amherst internship practicum course carrying 9 credits, usually either EDUC 398C or UNIV 398

  • 2. EDUC 276 Becoming a Problem Solver for 4 credits

  • 3. EDUC 394B Social Innovator’s Toolbox for 3 credits.

Billing & Financial Aid:

UMass follows what is known as a "home school tuition policy", which is typical of off-campus semester programs. This means that all billing is handled through UMass, and students continue paying UMass standard tuition & fees (minus UMass housing, plus the cost of SITC housing), and can expect to receive their typical financial aid package.
