Massachusetts Service Alliance Awards $671,000 to 110+ local AmeriCorps Fellows

BOSTON - October, 2026 - Massachusetts Service Alliance recently awarded $671,000 in formula funding to College for Social Innovation. This funding will support 110+ College for Social Innovation fellows in capacity-building across 50+ nonprofit organizations based in Boston and Fall River/New Bedford areas of Massachusetts.

By the end of the program year, fellows will help 54+ local organizations build their efficiency, effectiveness and reach as quarter-time AmeriCorps members. The $528,757 investment will also be matched in private funding.

“College for Social Innovation is deeply thankful to AmeriCorps and the Massachusetts Service Alliance for supporting our unique service learning model, helping college students build capacity for the social sector while building the skills, networks, and sense of purpose that can serve as a foundation for their future success and positive impact in their communities and the world,” said Eric Schwarz, founder & CEO of College for Social Innovation.

“National service is the backbone of the American social impact sector and AmeriCorps' support allows our members to provide critical, capacity building support to the organizations that keep our community healthy and strong.” said Edie Churchill, Chief Operating Officer of College for Social Innovation. “This funding not only has far reaching impact for Boston's nonprofits and social services, but provides meaningful opportunity to our student fellows as they pursue the careers and initiatives needed to face the complex challenges of our future.”

“We are thrilled that College for Social Innovation has been awarded funding through the Massachusetts Service Alliance to continue its impactful work. Since 2016, 826 Boston has hosted 60 fellows to advance our mission of providing free writing, tutoring, and publishing support to Boston Public Schools students,” said Corey Yarbrough, Executive Director of 826 Boston. “Fellows have touched every corner of our organization, from editing and designing youth publications to facilitating creative writing workshops, coordinating community events, and launching student clubs. We are grateful that the fellowship will continue to help local organizations expand their capacity and reach,”

Massachusetts Service Alliance supports 500+ Massachusetts organizations annually. Through their State to Service Plan, MSA is prioritizing building stronger communities through national service, volunteerism and service initiatives from 2026-2028.
