Our Semester in the City program gives students the opportunity to work in the social impact sector, develop community with like-minded individuals, and live and explore the city of Boston. We’re so proud of each and every one of them as they graduate from our program and incorporate what they learn in their academics and professional career.

Check out our new SITC “Alumni - Where Are They Now?” blog series as we hear updates from our amazing alumni who are going on to become the next generation of problem-solvers! First up we have Sam Read, a junior at Wheaton College, who has gone on to do incredible work academically and professionally!

My name is Sam Read and I was in the Spring 2020 cohort. Currently for my academic career, I am a junior at Wheaton College majoring in Business Management.

As for my professional career, I just got a new job working with Trailblaze Marketing in Providence, RI helping in areas such as web development, small business marketing and working with the RI Small Business Coalition. In addition to this, I am currently in the process of negotiating the sale of a business I started with a colleague to the State of RI. We started our business at the beginning of the pandemic to help local businesses get through the tough times and also grow in areas such as online and mobile ordering.

From my time with SITC, I believe one thing that I have incorporated into both my academic and professional career is the importance of reaching out and making connections with people. Whether it is someone who can help you, someone who shares your values or someone you just want to chat with, SITC enabled me to master the art of making connections with others to create a lasting network.
